Totally bored of being stuck? 10 things to try, instead.

Stuck. Even the word itself feels sticky. Being in the land of stuck is not a happy place to be. It’s  frustrating, demoralising and can totally sap your confidence and make you doubt your ability to create change.

You’ll know what I mean if you’ve ever felt stuck. It sucks. Stuck

What makes us stuck? Our thoughts, our words, our actions and the beliefs that we hold.

The loudest arguments we have are with ourselves and the greatest opponent we face are ourselves.

When we get stuck we can spend endless hours, weeks or months trying to rationalise and understand why we’re  stuck.

And what does that give us? Uh huh. More stuckness.

But here’s the thing if your mind could figure it out it would have.

Understanding it isn’t the way to change it. It’s the red herring.

Being stuck in being stuck can make us give up and settle for a smaller version of who we are.

What if it was easier to unstick yourself than you think it is? How does that feel?

Now I totally get that it may not feel this easy, because when we’re stuck it can feel like nothing works and that we have no choices.

There are always more choices, it is just that sometimes we can’t see what we can’t see.

The fact is you chose what you chose and it has brought you to where you are.

Want to get somewhere different? Then choose something different.

So how do you do this? Well there are endless possibilities – despite what you may feel – but here are some that people have told me have worked for them.

Be curious. Experiment and see what they do for you.

And remember change is always possible. Always. Always. Always.

  1. Stop telling the story that you’re stuck. Words have energy. It’s locking you in even more.
  2. Stop looking to others for answers. You know the answers for you. Trust yourself. Tell yourself you’re figuring it out.
  3. Don’t look outside – blaming others or justifying. It’s a waste of energy and doesn’t work. The only thing that you have any power over is you and the choices you make. Make a demand. Choose something different.
  4. Stop focusing on what you don’t want and focus on what you do want.
  5. Give up your need to be right. Who cares. What if you just picked what felt right for today instead of trying to get it right?
  6. Forget about what other people think. What matters is what you think. Choose for you. Not for anyone else.
  7. Make the choice to change and then begin to move in that direction. Need help to do that. Cool – asking for help is a strength not a weakness.
  8. Stop trying. It doesn’t work. If you are trying to be something then it means you are not. Think about someone who tells you they are ‘trying to be happy’ – they are not happy!
  9. Know that in any change there’s a tipping point. Don’t believe me then read ‘The Tipping Point’ by Malcolm Gladwell.
  10. Ask yourself a question. Conclusions stick us and questions create possibilities.
  • What am I not seeing? Then be curious about what shows up?
  • What would happen if I changed what I think about the situation?
  • Ask yourself what assumptions you have that are holding you where you are?
  • What can I not see here, that if I allowed myself to see it would create        something else?
  • If there were no wrong thing to choose what would I choose?
  • What’s the story am I telling that is keeping me here?

Over to you

So what could you do today to begin to unstick yourself? Anything is possible.

Try out some of the things that have worked for others and see what shows up for you.

Focus on your only point power. Here and now.

Have a story to share of where you got yourself unstuck then please share it, you may say exactly what someone else needs to hear!
