Are you stuck and just can’t figure out how to change it?

I co-host a radio show called, The Playground of Possibilities with Alun Jones. The topic on our show this week was, STUCK.

Now if any of you have ever been stuck, or are currently stuck, you will know just how much it sucks.

I totally get it. I was stuck for the longest time, (longer than I care to admit) in a number of areas of my life.

Looking back here are the things I can now see that I was sincerely mistaken about.

I thought I had a problem. stuck3

I thought I had to fix it.

Isn’t that what we learn at school?

I thought it was happening to me.

Cause I wouldn’t choose this – would I?

I thought there was something wrong with me.

Because if I was smart I would be able to figure it out.

I thought there was one thing I could do that would change everything and I was  searching for it.

Because I was extremely frustrated and had had enough.

I thought it was never going to change.

Because I had tried a lot of things.

I thought other people had it all figured out.

At least that’s how it looked to me.

I thought if I really focused on it, it would change it.  Because that’s what people do isn’t it?

I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea.

Now what I am about to say took me years to get and so I am hoping that I can help you avoid that endless loop.

So what links all of these things together? Well, if it hasn’t already jumped out at you it was my thinking.

It was actually my thinking that was keeping me stuck.

Your point of view creates your reality, or to put it another way – I was experiencing the feelings of my thoughts.

I was taking my thoughts, oh so very seriously. Infact,  I totally believed them to be true without question, and so was trying to change my external circumstances rather than changing what was happening on the inside.

On the inside my energy about the whole situation remained unchanged.

Our thoughts create worlds.

Now I totally get if you are stuck and feeling stressed that it can feel like there is a sense of panic and urgency.

But how much of that is your thoughts projecting into an imagined future I wonder?

What is actually happening right here, right now?

When we get super focused on one thing (kind a like a spotlight) then nothing else is lit up. You can’t see anything else. It remains unseen in the dark. It is not that it isn’t there it is just that we don’t see it.

It is like that when we give our full attention to ‘our problems’.

So what if……

You could acknowledge that your thought is just that – a thought and let it pass instead of getting into the dance with it.

In a world of infinite possibilities and thoughts why would you choose a thought that worked against you to create your reality?

A great tool to use for this is ‘Interesting point of view I have this point of view that (insert whatever the thought is)’ as you say this a few times you will begin to notice the energy shift and you may get some insights.

When you project into the future with the thoughts of your yesterdays, you deny yourself the infinite possibilities that are always available in the here and now.

What if you could just not think about whatever it is you are stuck about?  Just for today. Just as a curious experiment. You can pick it back up again tomorrow if you choose.

Over to you.

No matter where you are at, it can change. Interested to explore this more? Then get in touch with me at laura [at] lauraborland [dot] com. I look forward to hearing from you. Or if you have gotten yourself unstuck, then please share in the comments – you might just be the encouragement that someone else needs to hear today.
